The Zyxel NR5103 router supports 5G NR DL speeds of 4.67 Gbps* and 4G LTE DL speeds of up to 1.6 Gbps*. Wide-spectrum bandwidth accelerates internet speed and reduces network latency for premium and time-sensitive mobile broadband services.
Compliant with the latest WiFi 6 (802.11ax) standard, the Zyxel NR5103 5G router offers speeds of up to 3.6 Gbps with 4×4 UL/DL MU-MIMO. With the uplink MU-MIMO, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA), and beamforming technologies, the NR5103 delivers premium speed for multi-streaming data access. Along with the WiFi 6 and EasyMesh R2 certification, the NR5103 empowers service providers to deliver an optimal WiFi experience without dead zones.
Deploying NR5103 as part of FWA allows you to extend your 4G/5G service coverage into subscribers’ homes and workplaces without extra wire infrastructure. This secures the TCOs and increases business revenue by supporting a larger number of subscribers with a premium fixed-grade connection.
The Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) compliant architecture of NR5103 improves your operational efficiency during 5G migration, accelerating your 5G Internet service rollouts.
Through the 4G/5G radio interface, the NR5103 supports TR-069, and remote GUI to be fully configurable. Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) support enables remote firmware upgrades and troubleshooting through events triggered by the operators.
The NR5103 router comes with a subscriber app – Zyxel Air. The intuitive user interface of Zyxel Air provides your customers with the necessary assistance from device setup to routine management, minimizing service calls while enhancing user satisfaction.
This router is the original product that is rebadged as the EE5G Router 2022.
This router has the benefit of 4 x TS9 connections on the rear of the unit to enable the connection of a 4×4 MiMo 5G Antenna (or a combination of 5G antennas to suit).
You can see these TS9 antenna connections in the picture below and also a slide selector switch that you can set to INTernal or EXTernal to choose whether to use the internal antennas or whether to use the connected external antennas.
For this router we would recommendthat you first try to use the internal antennas if possible as they are fully optimised for this router and the 5G network. However, if circumstances mean that you cannot position the router in a suitable location to receive the best 5G network signal then below we have listed our recommendations for 5G antennas that are fully compatible with this router.
A 4×4 MiMo 5G Antenna comprises of four individual 5G antennas inside a single antenna housing with 4 x antenna connections (usually 4 x antenna cables) that will connect to the 4 x antenna ports of the NR5103 router.
Usually these 5G MiMo Antenna will be mounted outdoors where there is a better 5G signal and the cables run to the router indoors. Many of these MiMo antennas will be wall or pole mounted and most are supplied with 4 x 5m long cables, each terminated with an SMA Male connector. When buying a 4×4 MiMo antenna – always check the connector type and if buying a 5G antenna for the Zyxel NR5103 router that has an SMA connector, please remember to purchase the TS9 to SMA adapters. (you will need 4 x TS9 to SMA adapters to connect between the 4 x antenna cables and the 4 x TS9 antenna ports of the router)
These antennas will work for most installations where you have tested the 5G signal strength between the outdoor and indoor location. As a rule of thumb we usually say that if you get 2 bars of signal indoors and 3 or 4 bars of signal outdoors then use an outdoor 5G antenna. If you get 2 bars indoors and the same 2 bars outdoors then it may not always be beneficial to install an outdoor 5G antenna.
The Omni Directional nature means that this type of antenna will pick up a signal from all around, whether in front or to the sides and even above and below. They are general purpose antennas that are suitable for the majority of 5G router antenna installations. A great example is the Panorama DWMM4-6-60-5SP which is a weatherproof, wall or pole mounted antenna, supplied pre-terminated with 4 x 5m long antenna cables, with SMA Male connectors. This high-gain outdoor antenna will provide a good quality 4G or 5G network signal when positioned where there are good or reasonable 4G and 5G network signals and this antenna does not need to be pointed at a specific 5G tower or cellular base station.
Incorporating four separately fed ultra wideband elements in a single housing the DWMM4[G] is suitable for a huge range of fixed site and failover applications. The supplied mounting bracket enables simple wall mounting using the supplied screws and wall plugs and mast mounting using the supplied clamps.
A Directional antenna can be used with the Zyxel 5G Router if you know the location of the 5G Base Station. Ideally a directional antenna would be used if the cell tower was a distance away and the 5G signal was poor or you have several base stations available and want to ensure a strong signal to a particular tower.
If you have a good 5G signal in the antenna location then it is usually recommended to use an Omni-Directional antenna.
The Panorama WMM4G-6-60 is a high gain directional 4×4 MiMo antenna for 4G and 5G networks. It incorporates four pairs of wideband element assemblies in a single housing and is designed to support fixed site CAT18/20 client devices. It offers 6dBi peak gain for
617- 960MHz and 9dBi peak gain for 1710-6000MHz. The weather resistant housing is designed for wall or mast mounting with the supplied hardware.
This version is the WMM4G-6-60-5SP which is supplied with 4 x 5m long low loss cables with SMA Male antenna connectors for direct connection to our 5G router range.
The majority of 5G antennas are terminated with SMA Male antenna connections. This is largely because the majority of 5G routers for business and M2M use standard SMA connections. Some consumer 5G routers, including the NR5103 router still use the push type TSP connectors.
So, if you are buying a 5G antenna for the Zyxel NR5103 and it has SMA Male antenna connections then you will need to purchase TS9 to SMA adapters. These are usually sold singly or in twin pack. You will need a total of 4 x TS9 to SMA adapters if you intend to use a 4×4 MiMo 5G antenna and connect all four cables to the rear of the NR5103 router.
If you are no longer able to buy the NR5103 then the Zyxel NR5101 5G Router is the next best choice. It has all the same feature, speed and reliability, with the main difference being the fact it only has 2 x external antenna connections. These are primarily designed for 5G signal reception so ideally an external 5G antenna would be used where there is a 5G signal, rather than using the external antenna for high speed 4G.
